今天我们来讲一些外表特征相关的词汇,并且一起看看他们在考试中的用法~
1. wear /weə/
a.穿;戴;佩戴;
b.留着,蓄着(发、须等);
e.g. I used to wear my hair long/ short/ loose. 留长/短发/蓬松的头发。
e.g. wear hair up/ down 头发梳起/披下。
wear someone’s hair in …留某种发型
e.g. I always wear my hair in a ponytail/ braid/ bun 马尾/辫子/包包头
c.另外补充一个表达:wear well
e.g. This raincoat will wear well. 物品耐用;耐磨损
e.g. For 70, she's wearing well. 人显年轻。
2. chic /ʃiːk/
adj. 时髦的;别致的;
e.g. I like your haircut - it's very chic.
e.g. She looks very chic in this black dress.
近义词:stylish/trendy/fashionable / in fashion/ hip / tasteful
e.g. Platform shoes are back in fashion. 厚底鞋又开始流行了。
e.g. The bars are frequented by hip young students. 潮流的年轻人们时常光顾这些酒吧。
e.g. Anthea is a tasteful dresser. 安西娅穿着很有品味。
e.g. Only young trendies go to that pub.
注:trendy 可作为形容词,也可以用作名词表示赶时髦的人
3. radiant /'reɪdɪənt/
a.adj.容光焕发的,高兴的
e.g. On her wedding day the bride looked truly radiant.
e.g. Suddenly, her face broke into a radiant smile.
其他表示漂亮的词:stunning / gorgeous / ravishing/ attractive
b.光辉灿烂的;光芒四射的;
e.g. Out on the bay the morning is radiant. 海湾里的早晨阳光灿烂。
4. gaudy /'gɔːdɪ/
adj. too bright and heavily decorated 花哨的;艳俗的
e.g. She wore a gaudy costume to the party.
idiom: as gaudy as a butterfly. 过分花里胡哨
e.g. She looked as gaudy as a butterfly in her new designer dress.
穿着比较土和艳俗的近义词:showy / flashy / garish
e.g. Perhaps you should wear something a little less showy.
e.g. He always had a flashy car.
e.g. He is wearing a garish shirt in all sorts of colors.
