In many countries, the standard workweek consists of eight hours of work each day for five days per week. Now, though, some people advocate a shorter workweek: a four-day workweek with no decrease in workers' pay. There are advantages and disadvantages to this of course. What is your opinion about instituting a shorter, four-day workweek, and why?
Andrew
I like that idea, but on one condition: that the workday is no longer than eight hours. I have heard some plans require ten hours a day for a four—day week. and it could actually be counterproductive to tire out your workers.Yes to four—day weeks, but no to ten—hour days!
Claire
In my country, the workweek is Monday to Friday plus half a day on Saturday, so moving to a four-day workweek would be too drastic a change! Workers might struggle to complete their tasks in a four-day workweek. It seems less stressful to spread work out over more days rather than trying to condense it all into a shorter week.
I believe a four-day workweek is beneficial overall. As Andrew mentioned, in a four-day week, the workday should not exceed eight hours. The reduced working hours simply mean that employees improve their productivity by completing more work in less time. According to a 2019 survey, Microsoft Japan introduced a four-day workweek and reported a 40% boost in productivity, which demonstrates that people learn to be more careful with their calendar and to prioritize tasks effectively, reducing the likelihood of the scenario described by Claire, where employees struggle to fit work into a shorter workweek.【定语从句+非谓语动词作状语】 Additionally, the new workweek contributes to a better work-life balance. Employees can use the additional downtime to engage in sports, relax, and prepare meals. Therefore, the 4-day workweek is on the whole favorable to both employees and companies.

According to a 2019 survey, Microsoft Japan introduced a four-day workweek and reported a 40% boost in productivity, which demonstrates that people learn to be more careful with their calendar and to prioritize tasks effectively, reducing the likelihood of the scenario described by Claire, where employees struggle to fit work into a shorter workweek.
