Taxes are an essential part of any society as they provide the government with the necessary resources to fund public services and infrastructure. However, some people argue that paying taxes is enough of a contribution to society, while I entertain the view that individuals have a responsibility to do more than just pay their taxes.

With citizens imposed taxes, the government can to a large extent have the financial basis to ensure the basic survival of its taxpayers and guarantee the social soundness, as long as it distributes the resources reasonably. Therefore, paying taxes is a significant enough contribution to society, and individuals should not be expected to do more than that. However, the truth is that only paying taxes is far from being adequate enough.

These actions are crucial for building strong communities and addressing social problems, such as poverty, homelessness, and inequality, that cannot be resolved by governmental action alone. In other words, strong and effective though governmental action is, the administration can hardly cope with moral issues. Therefore, everyone should strive to do their part, as once a more vibrant, healthy, and equitable society is created, everyone will be the beneficiary.
