The table compares the percentage of commuters taking public transport to work or study in 7 cities of Australia from 1996 to 2006.
In general, compared with people in other 6 cities, more people in Sydney chose public transport for commuting throughout the decade. Except Hobart and Perth, the public transport in other cities witnessed a rising trend in their usage.
- Sydney
【Body 1】
We can see that in the first 5-year period, Sydney and Canberra saw a noticeable rise in the number of public transport passengers from 30% to 36% and from 20% to 28% respectively, followed by a slight decline in these two figures by 3%. By contrast, the proportion of passengers in Perth dropped noticeably from 15% in 1996 to only 7% in 2001, before climbing marginally to 9% in the final year.
Sydney+Canberra+Perth
- Perth:
【Body 2】
It is also clear that in the initial year, 23% of the commuters in Melbourne and 13% of those in Brisbane chose public transport for commuting. Subsequently, these two figures experienced a significant growth by roughly 7%. Although the figure in Adelaide remained stable at 19% in the first 5 years, a fractional increase could be found to 22% in 2006. However, the given 10 years’ period witnessed a constant fall in the percentage of public transport users in Hobart, with the figure falling by 3%.
Melbourne + Brisbane+Adelaide
- Adelaide:
- Hobart:
